I have heard good things about WP. I luv MT, but cannot afford it anymore. Also, MT’s continuous rebuilding is really not as cool as it felt when I first started looking into MT. It does not scale well. Period.

Anyway, so this morning, I took WP for a test-drive. Installation was a breeze and the tool had a very mature feel to it. However, I ran into a roadblock when I tried adding/editing entries to WP using w.bloggar. Although I knew that w.bloggar did not natively support WP, I thought I’d read somewhere that you could still make it work by selecting Custom or b2 as the Blog Tool in wbloggar’s Account Properties window.

Yes, I was able to read in the entries, even the categories. However, it’s when I tried editing an entry belonging to a category other than the default (General) that things quickly turned south. Here’s the error message that kept bugging me:

Worst part is, I think I even had cases when w.bloggar came back with a “Success” message only to find that the post was not reflected on the site. I even tried Zempt only to get similar flaky behavior.

Here are a few links that I found on WP Forums that seem to validate some of my findings here:

So, my question is:

What tool do WP users use to write/post their blog entries?

Have you considered b2evolution as an alternative? Like WordPress, it’s an offshoot of the old b2/cafelog, so there are some definite similarities between the two.

Where WordPress focuses on being slick-looking and easy to use, b2evolution focuses on features. b2evo is noticeably more complicated, a bit clunkier looking right out of the box, and loaded with a long list of goodies.

If you need fancy features like w.bloggar support and are willing to put up with extra complexity and needing to put in more effort to make your site look slick, b2evo is a possibility.

I’m not sure I understand the question that you’re asking. Wordpress is a web-based application, and the client that one uses for it is a web browser. I usually use Mozilla or Firefox. Why would you need any client application other than a browser?

Hmm…you make it sound as if authoring posts in HTML Text Area controls is actually fun.;-)

Well, I have always used a rich client (such as w.Bloggar) to write my posts. Not that it’s the best thing under the sun. Basically, I like using w.bloggar as a blogging client because:

1. I find it faster, since accessing my site at work (or even from home) can sometimes be painfully slow. I’d rather use the CPU cycles of my server only when I am ready for publishing.

2. I can do the actual authoring while I am offline with the added ability of getting a ‘preview’

I am assuming from your comment that you use the WP Admin section to author your blog entries. Fair enough. I might give that a try and see if I can get used to it.

Thanks for the comment.
