Will Obama be the last man standing?

In the language of metaphor, Clinton is an essay, solid and reasoned; Obama is a poem, lyric and filled with possibility. Clinton would be a valuable and competent executive, but Obama matches her in substance and adds something that the nation has been missing far too long — a sense of aspiration.
- LATimes as it endorsed Barack Obama for President of United States in 2009
I have always said, and I will say it again - It’s one thing to be a strong and experienced leader. It’s another thing to be someone who as a leader can inspire others. That’s what Obama does. He has the uncanny knack of making people believe in themselves and in this country and inspire them to dream B-I-G.
I did not know Barack Obama in July 2004. He was going to be the keynote speaker during one of the days in the 2004 Democratic Convention. I had taken time off from work and had decided to stay at home and follow the convention. The pundits had nice things to say about this man and his resume did look impressive. And then he gave the now famous “It’s not a Red America or a Blue America, It’s the United States of America” (1, 2) speech. Anybody who saw and/or heard the speech that night in the context of everything that was happening in this country during that time would tell you it was the most inspiring and wonderful speech that they had heard in a long time. I was bowled over. Utterly. Completely.
So here we are almost four years later. And Barack Obama is within a striking distance of being the Democratic nominee for the President of the United States. I was not around during the rise of JFK. I hear he was charming too. And inspring as well. That said, even he had a tough time getting the American people at the time to believe in him and his ability to lead, to inspire. They say he actually barely won the election (or was it the Democratic nomination?) Is Obama the JFK of our time? I don’t know. What I do know is this - I have not seen anyone in my lifetime that has come so darn close. What he does (or does not do) is something that only time will tell. But if I was a betting man, I would safely bet my money on this man. He is good. If you think I am crazy, hear him out. Give him some time. You will see what I mean.

Once again a great example of ignorance. Please, I hear this every day. Change change change blah blah blah. It is because of articles like this that America is in the situation that its in. I will explain however most folks are so dumbed down that it will most likely experience physical discomfort (no joke). As a people, we Americans make some of our most important decisions based on emotion. Generations of us have been taught to have faith in our media outlets as credible sources for the facts. This however is just not true. Now before I go any further with this I must ask everyone who reads this a favor… Take a deep breath, open your mind and this is the hardest part; try and set your emotions to the side for a moment. That last part is essential. Now, since we have been conditioned to believe that what we are told by our media is fact we put our trust in these outlets as our source of information on important topics (politics). This is a mistake for one major reason which I am about to explain. At one time we might have been able to say that what we got on the news was just the facts. The media would repot the facts as they happened and the people would decide for themselves. This is rarely the case nowadays. Today, what we get from our media is an appeal to our emotions. The subjects that are covered by the so called news sources shape their debates and commentaries around the most base of human emotions (fear, love, hate etc). They comment on subjects meant to “inspire” these base feelings (this article is a perfect example). The questions they ask evoke strong emotions which they choose at their own discresion. HOWEVER, as smart and well thought out their report appear to be they are backed by absolutely NO SUBSTANCE WHAT-SO-EVER! ex: this author quotes a major U.S newspaper that likens the candidates to lyrical poetry. He cites numerous people famous for “enspiring” others. This is all fine and dandy except that the people we are talking about could very well lead our country. Enspiring huh? Enspired to do what? ex: Barrack Obama is running for president on the platform of “change”. In fact his campaign slogan is “change we can believe in”. CHANGE FOR WHAT?????? If you look into it his policies and stances on the ISSUES are not that different from Hillary Clinton’s. The ideas he proposes (which he seldom mentions) have been parroted and repeated for years and years in the political arena. He states he wants to change the way things work in washington. That’s great Barrack, how do you plan to accomplish this feat? His voting record so closely mimics that of Clinton tha it distinguishable only by his opposition to the illegal war in Iraq (which he later voted to fund). Now you may be asking “why is he so popular then?”. The answers is simple…EMOTION. ex: The American people are outraged with the Bush administration! We as a country are furious that our government (not just the whitehouse) LIED to us. They used the most powereful emotion of all (fear)to authorize an illegal war. The government has spent ludicrous sums of money we don’t even have; thereby forcing our children and our childrens children to pay for it ENSLAVING AN ENTIRE GENERATION OF AMERICANS to finance a war that they are too young to even vote for! And what does this have to do with the democratic party you ask? Well I will tell you. They are all basing their candidacy on the idea of punishing president bush! They don’t give any good reason to vote for them other than to appeal to our vengeful nature, to show our disgust for our situation by voting for the the opposite party. The democrats repeat again and again how we need a change from the bush administration. They say “lets show president Bush and the neocon republicans out there what we think about them by kicking thierparty out of government”….AND AMERICANS EAT IT UP! Thy are basically telling us that we should give Bush the finger. Now, what effect does this have on voters? The effect is that we cast our votes based on our anger. We base our votes on “who we like” and “who we trust” instead of “who has the best ideas” or “who we agree with on the issues.” In my humble opinion this is the very root of what is wrong with our society. Just think about it. What if instead of being scared into starting a war in Iraq we all sat down and calmly looked at the evidence? What if instead of taking the president at his word our congress really looked into the intelligence on the WMD’s?
But you better damn well believe i am going to ask whats in the bag!
What if we asked ourselves the question “why did Al Queda hijack planes and kill thousands of americans? What possible reason would they have to attack innocent people? I can tell you with 100% confidence it wasnt because “they hate freedom”. What if we asked the question “if president bush is so serious about protecting americans from terrorism, why do wehave our troops in another country when all a terrorist has to do to get into our country is simply wal across the border from mexico?”
If the patriot act and FISA are meant to monitor only certain calls and target terrorists why do our phone companies need amnesty from prosecution? If the U.S doesnt torture people why wont our attourney general say it is illegal? If its not illegal then why were CIA tapes of us torturing people destroyed? If the CIA was ordered by congress not to detroy the tapes why isnt anyone from the CIA in trouble? If the whitehouse is required to keep all thier documents why is there a years worth of emails missing from the administration?
Am i the only person who thinks these questions? I dont think so. Well if lots of people are interested in these questions why isnt the media asking? Well if the media were to start asking these questions then someone would have to answer them! If we started making our decisions based on facts it would be a lot harder to shape the way vote wouldnt it?
What if instead of simply taking someone elses opinion we researched things ourselves? When reporters keep asking the question do you want the first black president or the first female president, we start basing our vote on race or gender instead who is has the best plan for our economy or who best will improve the worlds view of our country?
And with the exception of one man, the Republican party is even worse! The united states highest document of law, the document that is meant to be the groundwork of all other laws clearly states that congress must approve an act of war. The law is supposed to prevent one man from wielding our army as his own personal task force, however in the last debate Mitt romney and john mccain got into a heated debate on who would keep our military in Iraq the longest! Thats right folks, they were bickering over who could continue an illegal war the longest!
Does this make sense to anyone? John Mccain has said he would keep troops in Iraq for another 100 years. How can we allow one man to commit people to war that havent even been born yet!? All but one candidate endorses Bush’s economic “stimulus” plan. The plan is to give 200 billion dollars to american people in order to jumpstart our steadily failing economy. Where is that 200 billion dollars come from? We could borrow it from the chineese, but who is going to pay them back? Not the generation that is in charge right now! Our children will be forced to pay off that debt. We could simply have the federal reserve print up 200 billion, but once you flood the economy with more of our money how do you control inflation?
Should a privately owned company with almost zero oversight from the government be allowed to print money out of thin air? Well I dont think they should be able to but unfortunately that is the rediclous system we have in place. Shouldnt our money actually be worth something rather than having it worth only the paper it is printed on?
In my opinion the only person who has a grasp on reality in this presidential race is Dr. Ron Paul. However i don want to turn this into just another long winded stump speech. Who am I to tell you who to vote for? I dont claim to be smarter than anyone. Heck I am 26 years old and i havent even finished junior college. However, i will tell you what kind of person I am. I am the kind of guy who listens to everyones opinion but dont take eeryone at thier word. I am the kind of guy who wants to know “why”?
All my relatives tease me. They all say that since i could talk my favorite phrase was “how come?” I get frustrated when i ask a question and i cant get a straight answer. I get even more frustrated when I dont understand something. I am the kind of guy who will do what he is told as long as i think there is a good reason. I have worked for big corporations (on the lowest rung) and frustrated my bosses; not because i didnt perform well, but when a new policy was haned down from the corporate office i didnt understand it….When i asked my boss why we were instituting this policy he told me “sometimes you just have to do what you’re told”. I asked him to explain the companys tinking behind the policy and he couldnt answer. I asked if he could find out he said he was just following orders and I should too.
I dont know about you, but if a stranger walked up to me on the street and asked me to hold a bag for them while they ran into a dark alley i would gladly help them out
Finally, back to what i startd this rant about…emotion. Emotion can also be a good thing. Being inspired by someone has lead to the most positive movements in our nations history Ex: Dr. Martin Luther King, Rosa Parks. However, these inspirational people had one thing in common. They didnt inspire us to make irrational decisions based on how angry we were. No. They inspired us to think….. They awoke a nation to the realities of the injustice of thier times. Thats how they inspired me anyways. Obviously i wasnt even alive in those days so someone who was around could better articulate.
Anyway, I’m typing this on my phone and my thumbs are starting to cramp up. I end with this. Dont take my word for it. In fact, i hope you have heard what I have said and view it with a lot of skepticism. I hope you say to yourself “well thats a great opinion buddy but i a going to find out for myself!”
My main point is this….Do your own research and above all THINK FOR YOURSELF! Here is a good place to start….. Knowbeforeyouvote.com

Thanks for the comment.

Impressive.

Precisely. If his policies are the same as the other candidate in the race, why should I go for someone (read, Hillary) who is at best a “serious politician” and at worst a “scheming shrewd ambitious politician”. Either way, I would rather prefer to have someone in the White House who can inspire us to do the things that his opponent even agrees needs to get done. And you can’t get anything done in this country today by being a polarizing figure. That’s what Hillary is and that’s the rub.
I hope some day you grow up to lead people. And you will see that the hardest thing about leading people is not being a “strong” and “competent” leader. The hardest thing to do as a leader is to make the people you lead happily do things for you and then some. It sure seems Obama is gifted in this regard. Will it be a cake walk for him? No. Absolutely not. But, in my judgement (not EMOTION, judgement), this man is more capable to unite this country and get things done than Hillary.
Just my $0.02 cents
