Its an interesting subject. To me its more related to socio-political situation, not the representation of professionals or any other related to efficiency.
You should try to find this study between all the third world country and Western democracies.
Remember our Indian days, what every family wants from the kinds, Engineering or Medical.
And more importantly this really is coming from communism mentality, which basically believes more on the aggressive up-manship in science and technology then the choice, ownership, equality and freedom for the society (Is this article pasted by someone who lived in West Bengal state of India).
I remember during pre-Taliban Afghanistan, most Kabul and anti-Kabul leadership was engineer brigade. Nazibullah, Abdullah-Abdullah, and even Gulbuddin Hekmatyar was engineer (atleast used to say).
But I am not saying Lawyers are some great decision makers….. This I am leaving for other discussion…
