President George W. Bush won a battle over nearly $100 billion to fund the Iraq war as Democratic leaders in Congress on Tuesday abandoned efforts to withdraw troops for now but pledged to try again in July. Instead of setting schedules for pulling U.S. troops, it appeared the Democratic-run Congress and the Republican White House agreed for the first time to include conditions prodding Baghdad to make better progress toward quelling violence or risk losing around $1.3 billion in U.S. reconstruction aid. Bush could waive the provision, however.
- Democrats to fund Iraq war with no pullout date

Let it be known - Today marks a shameful day in the history of the conduct of the Iraq war by United States. It seems to me that there is a complete lack of leadership and imagination in both parties of this country. Where are the Obamas, the Clintons, the Edwards of the world when we need them? Where is the outrage over this?

Let me see if I understand this - I know there is a small, but sizeable section of this country who beleive in this Iraq war. They might have been pig headed and generally wrong about the war in these past few years, but they sure seem to have faith in their convictions and are willing to do what it takes to follow through on it. And then there is this other side, the side that seems to have no clue what they stand for. No wait, they might have a pretty darn good idea of what they would like and sure know how to talk the talk. But that’s just about it. They only know how to talk.

The fact is, it’s all about politics, not public service. There is a H-U-G-E difference. It’s sad to think that the only folks in this country who seem to have champions or leaders are the folks who would first shoot then talk, who would rather drop bombs on countries than do the hard work of understanding the real problem. Lee Iacocca was indeed right in the title of his latest book - “Where have all the leaders gone?”
